New to Nature No 8: Dioscorea orangeana

First discovered in the herbarium of the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, as a pressed specimen collected in 1960, the newly named yam species Dioscorea orangeana is restricted to northern Madagascar where it has since been repeatedly collected. Locals heavily harvest several related species of edible tubers called "Angona". This one is both new to science and threatened by extinction
