New Titans OLB Cameron Wake’s age won’t hinder him in 2019

The addition of former Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Cameron Wake brings an instant boost the Tennessee Titans defense.

The only real thing about Wake that causes some to be wary is the fact he’s 37.

But Wake says he’s used to he criticism, and feels he’s proven his doubters wrong for years now.

“I’ve been old since I was 28,” Wake told reporters. “Every year I am too old. Anything that’s happened, I’ve been injured, and it’s like “It’s over. He’s done. If I had nickel for every time I’d probably go buy a team.”

And it’s more than just talk on Wake’s end. He backs it up with his on-field performance, and numbers on the stats sheet.

In 2018, Wake posted a total of 36 combined tackles, six sacks and one pass defensed.

On a 10-year career with the Dolphins, Wake racked up 360 combined tackles, 98 sacks, 16 passes defensed and one interception.

The Titans will hope he can continue that success into the 2019 season and beyond in Nashville. Wake calls his deal with the team “a match made in heaven,” and knows he has the ability to be a key contributor.

“It’s a tough, smart, disciplined team, and I think it fits right in with some of the things I like to think of that I bring to the table.”
