New Tim Hortons store in Washington could stay open all night

Canadian coffee giant Tim Hortons is seeking permission to open through the night at a planned store in Washington.

Planning chiefs at Sunderland City Council granted the firm permission to open an outlet at the vacant Frankie and Benny’s unit in the Galleries Retail Park last year.

The process set opening hours for the new venture at 7am – 11pm, Monday – Sunday.

But a separate application lodged with the city’s licensing department is now seeking a late night refreshment licence, which would allow it to continue trading for an extra six hours every day, from 11pm – 5am.

The proposed outlet is expected to include ‘picnic-style’ outdoor seating, accessible parking, bicycle racks and a drive-thru lane.

The Toronto-based firm is bets known for its coffee, as well as doughnuts, pancakes, sandwiches and burgers.

A consultation on the latest application is now running.

Contact licensing@sunderland.gov.uk by Tuesday, March 2, to find out more and submit any comments on the proposals.
