New Thai takeaway inspired by visits to South Asia

A new Thai takeaway restaurant is opening in Hamilton.

Several holidays to Thailand inspired owner Liam Morgan’s new menu which all started from one dish out the back of a van.

The 31-year-old quit his sales job last year to pursue his passion and hopes new eatery Pad T’aye will bring a taste of something different to the town.

He told Lanarkshire Live he began getting creative with new Thai recipes he found online before visiting South Asia four times to experience the culture properly.

It led to Liam’s quirky food van serving at festivals including The Big Feed and Glasgow Mela.

The delicious platters proved popular and now the new takeaway on Campbell Street is set to open on Tuesday, June 29.

Liam told us: “I’m bringing something a bit different to the table, serving new fresh ideas so hopefully it goes down well.

“I started with just one Thai dish and now I’ve set up a full menu.

“I quit my sales job to start the business and now I’ve had the hard work of my staff to help me.

“It’s worked out quite well, I was looking through recipes on YouTube and changed things to figure out what I liked in them.”

Liam, who is from Chapelhall, says his new shop will look easy on the eye with its set-up looking as though his old food van is inside the building, to give it that authentic look.

“It will also have lots of tie-dye decor inside so it should be something quite unique”, Liam explained.

“I’ve been to Thailand four times and I love it, I’ve just been taking bits and pieces of things I like from every time I’ve been there.

“Lockdown actually helped me in a strange way, it’s given me the push to get this started and been a blessing in disguise almost.”
