New Texans cornerback Bradley Roby out to prove he is elite

A former first-round pick of the Denver Broncos, newly acquired Hosuton Texans cornerback Bradley Roby is no stranger to being under pressure.

A Super Bowl champion back in 2015, the former Ohio State Buckeye signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans worth a reported $10 million. This high-priced corner is expected to start from day one and help revitalize a formerly stale Texans cornerback group.

Despite signing such a short-term deal, it is safe to say that Roby is not short of confidence as he enters his sixth season in the NFL.

When asked what he aims to prove this coming year, Roby’s answer was simple.

“Just to prove that I’m one of the best in the league and just to get another opportunity to do that,” Roby said on a conference call with Houston media on March 14. “That’s really it.”

Houston will hope he can support this statement with some big performances this season as he will be facing off against the likes of Indianapolis Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton and Tennessee Titans wideout Corey Davis twice a year. But yet again, Roby fully believes in his abilities to cover fast receivers and deep balls, something Houston has struggled with in recent years.

“I think I can guard anybody,” said Roby. “It doesn’t really matter size or speed. I can cover anybody. I think that’s another reason why Houston wanted me here is to guard guys like T.Y. and [Kansas City Chiefs receiver] Tyreek Hill and those guys. I saw him twice a year for the past two or three years. So, I’m used to it and I look forward to the challenge, definitely.”

Despite a rocky tenure in Denver, where he only found himself starting consistently for one season (2018), Roby seems unaffected by his past experiences.

I don’t really want to talk too much about the past,” said Roby. “I’ve kind of self-assessed and have my reasons and things like that, but I’m moving forward. It’s a clean slate here, and I will be so much better than I was last year. That’s for sure. That’s all I’m worried about.”
