A new Covid-19 testing facility has opened in the Newport area linked to a spread of new cases.
The new temporary testing facility, located in Bassaleg, is currently in operation and is understood to be open until Monday, April 19.
On Thursday, WalesOnline reported that Bassaleg had seen a rise in Covid-19 cases linked to "social gatherings."
Newport council stated that the cases have been linked to increasing social interaction, and specifically affect people aged 16 to 19 with links to Bassaleg and Rogerstone.
"In the past few days there have been linked Covid cases in young people, specifically in the 16-19 year age group, that live in or have links to the Rogerstone/Bassaleg area," said a tweet posted by the council on Wednesday.
"Spread has been linked with social gatherings, sharing cars and meeting up, even outdoors, such as in parks."
The new testing facility in Bassaleg is located at Whiteheads Rugby Club, NP10 8LA , and will be open between 9 am and 5pm every day until Monday.
Welsh Government guidance states that anyone with coronavirus symptoms should self-isolate and get a test.
It lists coronavirus symptoms as:
- A new continuous cough
- A high temperature
- Loss of or change to sense of smell or taste
The new facility in Bassaleg is the sixth facility currently in operation in Newport.
Testing facilities are also located in:
- Rodney Parade
- Ringland Labour Club
- Former Kwiksave car park, Pillgwenlly
- Duffryn Arms car park
- Bettws Social Club car park
