New tenants announced for the exciting former Royal Mail sorting office development in Newport

A number of businesses have been revealed as the newest tenants in the revamped Royal Mail sorting office in Newport.

Global data company W2, which is currently based in nearby Clarence House, is set to move into the former sorting office on Mill Street, taking up a 5,468 sq ft space, while OLM, a software company, is taking up 1,000 sq ft.

The pair join co-working space Work and Meet, which has already taken up almost 20,000 sq ft of space in the development.

Developers Garrison Barclay Estates (GBE) confirmed during the summer that Work and Meet had taken up an extra 5,000 sq ft of space on the first floor, saying it was "clear the pandemic is transforming the take up of traditional office space" and that "we are seeing a shift in demand from lease to short term license even from the largest organisations, including banking and insurance."

Work on converting the 50,000 sq ft Mill Street development had been due to complete in the first half of the year, but lockdown saw construction halt with the developers pushing completion back to the second half of the year "at the earliest."

The development will now be completed by the end of the year, by which time its tenants are expected to have moved in.

Mill Street is among a host of exciting developments currently taking place in Newport, including the multi-million Chartist Tower and the planned redevelopment of Newport Market.

A spokesperson for GBE said on Tuesday: "W2 have signed up to take 5,468 sq ft, moving from Clarence House, and OLM have agreed to take 1,000 sq ft.

"Work and Meet are also taking 19,211 sq ft on the ground floor.

"We have remaining suites available from 1,000 sq ft up to 30,000 sq ft."
