New tenant for former Bullring Apple store three years after tech giant moves on

One of Birmingham's most prominent retail units which has sat empty for three years has finally been filled.

The former Apple store on the top floor of the Bullring will have a new Levi's shop in time for the Christmas shopping period.

Apple left the city centre mall in 2016 when it opened a new, larger shop in the historic grade II-listed former Waterstones building in New Street.

But despite its prominent location next to the main entrance of the Bullring, the shopping centre has struggled to fill the tech giant's former home until now.

Hammerson, which co-owns and manages the Bullring, has announced that the US denim company is taking the 3,200 sq ft space and will launch its new store in November.

The new store will stock jeans, sweaters, T-shirts and outerwear for men and women alongside a personalised tailoring service.

Levi's currently has a store in nearby High Street and it is not clear yet what will happen to it when the new shop opens.

Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, said: "Levi's is a unique brand that has been delivering iconic products for over 100 years.

"When it comes to clothing and fashion, across our portfolio we're targeting brands that offer something different, both in terms of the in-store experience and the products they sell and Levi's delivers that.

"The new store will really complement the other great brands we have."

Richard Hurren, vice-president of Europe North at Levi's, added: "Birmingham has a thriving fashion community as the second biggest city in the UK.

"With its iconic architecture, Bullring is a much-coveted retail destination and this new store opening offers fans of the brand the right product offering in a great location."
