New tax plan is a real handicap

As it is deliberating a land and buildings tax bill, a National Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee is also considering offering golf course operators tax breaks under the proposed law. This move, however, undermines the spirit of the legislation.

According to Deputy Finance Minister Wisut Srisuphan, who chaired the committee, there is a plan to help this and other types of businesses alleviate the impact of the legislation. Put simply, the committee is considering proposing another organic law to define criteria for alleviation measures or tax exemptions under this bill, which is close to be endorsed by the NLA.

The committee planned to wrap up its vetting of the bill by the end of this year, but it asked to extend its deliberation by two months to ponder the details of such "tax alleviation measures", which will be proposed for certain businesses and activities.
