The Education Ministry is inventing a system that allows higher education students to take up multidisciplinary studies across universities and through informal education.
The Office of Higher Education Commission (Ohec) has approved the Education Ministry's draft announcement permitting a "study credit basket" system where tertiary students can pursue inter-faculty studies at more than one university and still qualify to obtain a bachelor's degree or a diploma.
Ohec board chairman Prasart Suebka said students can accumulate their study credits across universities regardless of their age.
There is also no limit on the period of time it takes to accumulate the credits before the students can qualify to receive a degree.
In addition, the announcement also permits students to enrol in informal education, which counts towards the degree credits.
The system aims to make education a lifelong learning experience which is not restricted to the classroom of a single institute, according to the Ohec.
However, Mr Prasart said the new system must be audited by the educational councils responsible for regulating the curriculum standard.
Clear criteria must be drafted that governs an effective transfer of study credits from one university to another. The sources of informal education must also be assessed to see if the knowledge they pass on to students meets the standard quality.
