New Sydney Resident Tyra Banks Has A Gripe With The City’s Public Transport System

tyra-banks

Tyra Banks is well into her permanent move to Sydney, and like every single resident before her, her biggest gripe with the city involves… you guessed it… public transport

Banks relocated Down Under last year to open her harbourside ice cream shop, and while getting herself acquainted, she has encountered a hiccup in the form of her Opal card

Yep, even supermodels are just like us!

The America’s Next Top Model host explained why Sydney’s fare system leaves her feeling “so confused” in a recent interview with Man of Many

“My most Aussie moment moving here is having an Opal card,” Banks said in a sentence that I never thought would exit a supermodel’s mouth.

“I love my ferry. I love to swipe my card at the beginning and at the end,” she added, understandably forgetting that Opal is famously a tap system.

“I’m still confused as to why I have to swipe it at the end,” Banks said.

I guess in America commuters hop off and… what? Pay the full trip fare?! In this economy?!

Don’t forget to tap off, Tyra! We caught up with Tyra Banks recently at her new ice cream store in Sydney, and turns out she’s traded in the fashion catwalks for the Circular Quay terminal with her Opal card in hand. What a legend!

In any case, Banks admitted that she does “sometimes forget” to tap off (real), and wonders whether that means “the Opal police are going to come get me”.

It’s an understandable fear, but if anyone is forgiven for (accidental) fare evasion, it’s the originator of “Brie-yoncé, what’s your favourite type of cheese?”

Better yet, she could just pull one of those ANTM ‘faints’ to get the transport officer off her back. Or hit them with a dazzling smize. In any case, we’re rooting for you! We’re all rooting for you!

Despite the Opal confusion, Banks said she still “loves that ferry”, which she uses to “go to restaurants or get across town”.

Speaking of which, the model elsewhere revealed her favourite Sydney hotspots, telling The Daily Telegraph that she’s a patron of Queen Chow in Manly, Bondi’s Gertrude & Alice café and Taronga Zoo.

Someday soon she’ll get to Marrickville Pork Roll, unless the Opal police get to her first.

Banks moved to Sydney to establish her ice cream shop SMiZE & DREAM (iconic), which is located in Darling Harbour and officially opened its doors last week.

Should Banks ever make it to the PEDESTRIAN.TV office, I now know the perfect question to ask her:

Trai-yoncé, what’s your favourite train route?
