Forget oysters and chocolate – sunshine is the top turn-on for Irish women, a survey has suggested.
The “mood-enhancing effect” of hot weather narrowly pipped prosecco to the post on the list of best aphrodisiacs in a sex study published yesterday.
Freshly-laundered sheets proved another effective way to put women in the mood, coming in third place on the list compiled after a survey by a leading affairs site.
The results showed few people found “classic” mood enhancers such as oysters, chocolate, or asparagus made them more passionate.
Only 8% of women and 7% of men had felt sexier after eating the shellfish with their partner.
However, the survey found 87% of women and 86% of men do believe in the power of aphrodisiacs.
Sex expert at IllicitEncounters.com Jessica Leoni said: “The most potent aphrodisiac that makes sex more likely for a couple is just feeling good about life.
“For women in Ireland this can be something as simple as a long run of nice weather combined with fresh-smelling clean sheets.”
Three-quarters of women (72%) and two-thirds of men (63%) said their libido dropped when they were in a bad mood.
Two-thirds of men (67%) and 58% of women try to do something ‘special’ for their partner each week to make sex more likely.
The Irish men’s list is very different and relies more on visual stimulation and work-related highs.
Top spot goes to the rush men get when their sport team wins, which “puts them in the mood for sex”.
Alcohol is just as much an aphrodisiac for men as it is for women, but beer is more popular for males.
The site is expecting July and August to be the two busiest months in its history as lockdown eases.
