New super playground and picnic area in Sandiacre now open

A newly refurbished playground has opened in Sandiacre at the Doncaster Avenue Recreation Ground.

On May 21, the play area was opened by Sandiacre Parish Council and was attended by the children from Westfield Pre-School.

The play area has been transformed into a vibrant and exciting space for families and younger children to enjoy.

A Fantasy Fun Trail has been installed in the park together with a large picnic area where families can have lunch out in the sun.

Trees will be planted shortly to offer shade with plans to install a play frame and two rockers which will be funded by a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All.

The new super playground was opened by Parish Council Chairman, councillor Wayne Major and Cheryl Raynor from the charity FCC Communities Foundation.

Councllor Major said: "The new play area is a great asset to the community and will cater for a wide range of ages.

"The park can be enjoyed by everyone and it is evident that more children and families are using the new facilities. The whole project has been a great success.

‘We are delighted to have supported the Parish Council with a grant of £34,954.77 to bring this project to fruition, this is a fantastic facility for local people and one which can be enjoyed for years to come.

“FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
