New summer transfer window plan affecting Nottingham Forest emerges

Nottingham Forest could be able to sign and sell players up until the end of March under reported new EFL plans for the summer transfer window.

The Reds ' season is currently suspended until further notice as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

It is hoped the campaign can be completed over the summer - if it is deemed safe to do so.

However, this raises a number of issues regarding player contracts and the next transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, the EFL wants to extend the summer transfer window - which would normally be due to close on September 1 - until the end of March 2021, "in a bid to allow clubs to trade their way out of the financial ruin triggered by the pandemic".

The report says the EFL is keen for the window to remain open for as long as possible - for a period that "at least covers the first half of next season but ideally longer - until the traditional fourth Thursday in March traditional deadline date".

Clubs have been informed of the plan and the EFL has asked the Football Association to lobby FIFA on the issue, it is claimed.

An official at one EFL club is quoted as saying: "It's a common sense move. We have absolutely no idea how next season is going to look but we know that money is going to be a huge issue.

"Extending the window deep into the season would allow us the flexibility needed as we try to keep afloat but also stay competitive."
