New student accommodation to be built alongside Bristol's Floating Harbour

Bristol City Council's Planning Committee have granted planning permission for a new student accommodation block alongside Bristol's Floating Harbour. The new accommodation on Avon Street in Bristol will house 471 bedrooms at the waterside development.

The proposal aims to regenerate a brownfield site adjacent to Bristol Temple Meads station and the soon to be finished University Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus. The plans were developed alongside Bristol University for student accommodation developer and operator, Host, to ensure the needs of students are met and there is a focus on student wellbeing.

Across three buildings, the blocks will be eight to 12 storeys high. The aim is for the buildings to be distinctly designed to reflect Bristol's industrial past, to provide new landmarks for Bristol Temple Meads passengers.

Bristol-based landscape architect, Churchman Thornhill Finch, alongside architectural firm, Chapman Taylor, and real estate company, Savills, have designed the student accommodation around a landscaped communal garden and waterside communal Hub.

Construction is not expected to begin until next summer. July 2023 is expected to be the start date of construction work, with a completion date expected of summer in 2025.

It is expected that the accommodation could start welcoming students in Autumn 2025. The 471 bedrooms on offer will be built across the three buildings and arranged around a courtyard, with a two-storey mixed-use Hub along the harbourside.
