New Strictly dancer Jowita Przystal’s boyfriend was left “gutted” not to land a role in the show but he has vowed to support her.
Millions of viewers watched Michael Danilczuk win The Greatest Dancer alongside his Polish girlfriend last year.
The pair – described as “inseparable both on and off the stage” – were mentored by Strictly star Oti Mabuse, who is now a close friend.
After their win, Jowita admitted she could not have done it without Michael. Weeping, she said: “This competition brought us closer together – we are just one. I couldn’t do it without him.”
But they must break up their working partnership as she joins the BBC1 show in autumn, while he did not find a place.
One source said: “It’s understandable he feels a bit gutted – but he is really proud of Jowita and will be supporting her all the way.”
A Strictly Come Dancing insider said: “The team considers dancers from across the globe.
“There are many factors that play a part in each casting. Every Strictly dancer is considered as an individual.”
In a social media post Michael wrote how proud he was of his “babe”.
He told Jowita, 26: “You are the most hardworking person on this planet, I know you’ll be outstanding.
“I know how much this means to you. I love you from the bottom of my heart.”
On joining Strictly, Jowita said: “This is my biggest dream come true.”
