New street art of Prince Harry as 'Rebel Without a Crown' appears in London

A new piece of street art depicting Prince Harry as a “Rebel Without a Crown” has appeared in London.

The piece, which is a play on the poster of James Dean movie Rebel Without a Cause, was created by the artist Pegasus.

It appeared on Saturday morning in Shoreditch on a wall provided by Global Street Art.

Pegasus has previously created murals of Kim Jong Un as a child, Hillary Clinton as Wonder Woman and Donald Trump as the Statue of Liberty.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will be standing down from their roles as senior royals, and will work to become “financially independent” .

Pegasus told the Standard: “It was painted this morning in the early hours today and took just under 3 hours to paint. The piece is just over a 1m tall and is located in Shoreditch, London just off Great Eastern Street.

"I’ve created this piece in response to the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement of stepping down as senior royals as well as working towards becoming financially independent."

“I’ve tried to remain on Pegasus brand by creating this tongue and cheek piece which makes reference to James Dean‘s classic “Rebel Without A Cause”.

“Seeing as Prince Harry has never been first in line to the crown and has a rebellious history as royal gone rogue in his bachelor days, the pun seemed appropriate in this current situation which has left the nation and royal family shaking in their gems," Pegasus said.

The artist has previously painted the Sussexes as a couple - and did a separate piece when the relationship was blossoming.

Pegasus added: “It’s extremely sad that our 93-year-old Queen has had to take such a shocking blow from her grandson in such a public way without following proper royal protocol, but I hope the nation can stand behind the young couple and wish them well in their new journey together.”
