New streaming platform Lounges.tv aims to be fair and democratic

New streaming platform Lounges.tv aims to disrupt the streaming market with an ethos that means any creator using the platform is paid 80% of stream or content revenue within 24 hours. Lounges.tv is already working with thousands of content creators.

Supported by leading figures in the streaming and music industry, including Ben Lavender, the founder of BBC iPlayer, and Kiran Sharma, who has managed talent including global icon Prince, Lounges.tv wants the streaming space to be a fairer and more democratic industry.

Ben said: “Lounges.tv is disrupting an industry that for too long hasn’t supported the community and individuals that are building careers within streaming. At a time when the cost-of-living crisis is impacting the creative industries, businesses like Lounges.tv are vital in helping build a creative future.”

Co-founder of Lounges.tv Scott Green said:“There’s an enormous wealth of talent out there and we believe that whether you’ve got 100 or 100,000 followers shouldn’t impact your ability to earn revenue from your hard work and creativity. We’ve created Lounges.tv to democratise content creation, ensuring creators of all sizes across all interests have a fair platform on which to share their content.

"For too long, the ability to earn from content creation has been locked behind subscriber or follower counts and viewing figures, rather than being based upon the communities and interests of creators and their fans. This space is ripe for disruption, and it’s time it shifted to let creators of all sizes, and not just those with significant followings, to be able to make money.”

Creators set their own prices for streams, deciding on the number of viewers, and how they interact with them whether through chat or two-way stream. For streamer and viewer safety, creators can bring in a moderator to control chats, and dedicated tech support for content creators including helping sharpen sound and visuals helps ensure streams run seamlessly and they don’t need top-of-the-range equipment to get started.

Lounges.tv has been awarded an Arts Council England grant to help 150 London-based upcoming musicians aged 16-30 from low-income, and BAME backgrounds. Providing access to free online training with industry mentors, recording time at Pirate Studios and the support they need to stream on Lounges.tv. Applications are open now and open until November 30, 2022.
