A new storytelling club based on one of the oldest forms of entertainment is coming to Cardiff. True Stories Told Live Cardiff, starting at Cardiff Arts Institute on Monday 10 May, is based on the success of The Moth in New York and will be the sister club to True Stories Told Live London – where a small number of people tell a ten-minute unscripted story about their lives.
The club will run once a month held in the new gallery space at CAI and entrance is free by invitation – with numbers limited to 30 people.
Cardiff Storytelling Circle is a group which already meets at Chapter Arts Centre on the first Sunday of the month.
Tim Sheppard's Storytelling FAQ tells us this:
In western cultures, where storytelling declined drastically before the recent revival, the word 'storytelling' immediately makes 95% of adults dismissively think of children. But if they can be persuaded along to a show for adults they are astounded at the quality and magic of what they have been missing - those Grimms' fairytales weren't originally meant for kids at all. In many cultures with more of their traditions and extended family life intact, storytelling is for all, and even by all.
But the stories at True Stories Told Live Cardiff, will all be from real life memories - not fairytales.
