Fair or not, the Pittsburgh Steelers pick of inside linebacker Devin Bush comes with some serious expectations. Not just because the Steelers traded multiple picks to go up and get Bush but because of the legacy he has to follow.
Pittsburgh has spent the last two seasons trying to figure out how to replace the production and presence of Ryan Shazier. A tall order but it doesn’t seem to intimidate Bush. He handled the question about Shazier like a pro when asked shortly after being chosen by the Steelers.
“I’m just ready to be Devin Bush. I’m not trying to be Ryan Shazier,” Bush said.
This is the perfect answer. But make no mistake, the comparisons are going to come. Pittsburgh didn’t trade up to get Shazier and he went five picks later. If Bush doesn’t come in and produce early and often, fans are going to wonder if he was worth the trade.
