New Star Wars movie to be co-written by Glaswegian writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns

The annual Stars Wars Day yesterday (May 4) in celebration of the film franchise took on an extra dimension with the news that a new Star Wars movie was in the works.

With Taiki Waititi, who recently won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 'JoJo Rabbit', to write and direct the new movie - to be released in cinemas in the near future.

And Glasgow fans of the media franchise have also given cause for celebration with the news that our very own Krysty Wilson-Cairns will co-write the script to the blockbuster.

Star Wars revealed the news yesterday via a Tweet which read: "Incoming news from a galaxy far, far away...Academy Award winner Taiki Waititi to direct and co-write a new Star Wars feature film for theatrical release, Academy-Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns to co-write screenplay with Waititi."

A graduate of the city's Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the 33-year-old Shawlands born scriptwriter was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for co-writing war movie 1917 - which was partly filmed at Govan Graving Docks.

A feature film debut which put her firmly on Hollywood's tractor beam (sorry).

And speaking of a galaxy far, far away, the Star Wars gig doesn't come much further away from her first footsteps in the film and TV world - as a runner on Taggart as a 15-year-old on work experience!

Which leaves us to say as Yoda would, yersel' Gaun, Krysty!
