New 'much ruder' Spitting Image TV show targets Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

There’s a plus side to the new Spitting Image debuting exclusively on a streaming service: the puppets are “much ruder” than before.

Which is saying something.

The first series in 24 years will feature a host of new characters being lampooned, including Vladimir Putin, Prince Harry and wife Meghan and the Prime Minister’s chief political advisor Dominic Cummings.

And as the show will air on the BBC and ITV’s joint streaming venture Britbox, rather than the channels themselves, things could get even uglier than they did in the past.

Former producer John Lloyd – who has had a sneak preview – tells The Oldie magazine: “There are some hilarious bits… much ruder than any terrestrial channel would allow.”

The original’s co-creator Roger Law is back on board for the show, which ran between 1984 and 1996 with sculpted caricatures of Margaret Thatcher and John Major watched by 15 million viewers.

He said the new series “will be more outrageous, audacious and salacious than the previous incarnation”.

Adele, Kim Kardashian, environmentalist Greta Thunberg and Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp also feature in the series, which starts in the autumn.
