Egypt reported on Thursday over 1,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time since May 30, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health.

Egypt recorded 1,011 new infections and 21 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly in the world.

Abdel Ghaffar stated Friday that the unvaccinated are more vulnerable and are more likely to experience severe complications and possibly death.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health stated that the infection tally amounted to 396,699, including 330,714 recoveries and 22,063 deaths.

The Ministry urged citizens to register for vaccine shots through its website, stressing that it spares no efforts to provide jabs for free to citizens.
