New Spain travel rules as Omicron cases continue to rise in UK

Spain has announced new COVID measures for travellers from the UK as cases of the new variant continue to rise.

The UK has changed its rules for holidaymakers going to Spain, so those travelling between the countries will face further travel rules, BerkshireLive reports.

Cases of Omicron were also found in Spain, with cases found in Madrid and Catalonia last week.

Following the first case, the Spanish Health Ministry introduced a mandatory 10 day quarantine period for passengers arriving from South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

The Spanish Health Ministry has also recommended limiting the number of people at social gatherings.

Those travelling from the UK are urged to keep checking the latest advice before making their journey.

What does this mean if I am travelling to Spain?

Brits travelling to Spain are still able to do so as the UK is not listed under the Spanish Government's risk countries.

However, the Spanish Government reviews its list every seven days so travellers are advised to check the website for the latest information.

Currently, when travelling to Spain from the UK, you will have to provide a certificate or document certifying you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of Wednesday, December 1, the country has also increased the restrictions on passengers, who will now need to prove they have had two doses of the vaccine.

If entering from a third country such as Australia, Canada, Argentina or China you will also need to provide documentation certifying that you have undertaken a Covid test within 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain, or an antigen test taken within 48 hours of arrival.

You may also present a medical certificate certifying that you have recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months prior to travel.

At the present time, it is not mandatory to present any form if the trip to Spain is by land.

From 4am on December 7, all people aged 12 and over must take a PCR or lateral flow test (LFD) before they travel to England from abroad.

The test must be taken within the two days before they travel to England and will apply to all travellers aged 12 and over, even if they are fully vaccinated.

All passengers arriving into the UK must also take a PCR test to be taken on or before their second day in the country.

Tests should be booked prior to travellers returning to the UK.
