New signings feature as Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi names starting line-up to face Barnsley

New signings Tyler Blackett and Fouad Bachirou were handed their Nottingham Forest debuts in the opening match of the season.

Fellow summer arrivals Jack Colback, Luke Freeman and Lyle Taylor started on the bench for the Reds’ Carabao Cup clash at Barnsley.

But there was no place in the matchday squad for Miguel Angel Guerrero, who became the club’s sixth recruit when he put pen to paper on Friday.

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi named something of a surprise line-up for the first round tie, with a full debut for youngster Jordan Gabriel and a recall for Joao Carvalho, who had struggled for game time at the end of last season.

Forest went into the match looking for a very different outcome to their last visit to Oakwell, when they were beaten 1-0 in the penultimate game of last term.

Goalkeeper Brice Samba had been sidelined with injury on that occasion, but took his place between the posts this time around.

Gabriel stepped in at right-back, following the departure of Matty Cash, with Blackett lining up alongside Tobias Figueiredo in the heart of the defence, and Yuri Ribeiro at left-back.

Bachirou partnered Ryan Yates in central midfield, having made the move to the City Ground from Malmo.

Carvalho looked set to take up the No.10 role, supported by Sammy Ameobi and Nuno Da Costa on the flanks, with Lewis Grabban up front.

Joining Freeman, Taylor and Colback on the bench were Jordan Smith, fresh from signing a new deal with the club, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Mighten and Michael Dawson.

Forest: Samba, Gabriel, Figueiredo, Blackett, Ribeiro, Yates, Bachirou, Ameobi, Carvalho, Da Costa, Grabban. Subs: Smith, Colback, Freeman, Jenkinson, Mighten, Dawson, Taylor.
