New signings and big names feature for Nottingham Forest in pre-season friendly defeat

New signings Lyle Taylor and Tyler Blackett got their first run-outs for Nottingham Forest in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Reds were beaten 2-0 by Oldham Athletic in a behind closed doors match, which took place at the Nigel Doughty Academy with no media present.

But a number of their first-team stars were involved as Sabri Lamouchi’s side stepped up their preparations for the new Championship season.

According to the Latics’ official report, Taylor and Blackett featured for Forest in the first half as part of a strong line-up which also included in-demand right-back Matty Cash, goalkeeper Brice Samba, striker Lewis Graban, defender Michael Dawson and winger Sammy Ameobi.

After the break, a new side was fielded, featuring defenders Joe Worrall and Carl Jenkinson, as well as Albert Adomah, who spent the second half of last term on loan at Cardiff City.

Among others getting game time during the fixture were Nuno Da Costa, Joao Carvalho, Ryan Yates, Tobias Figueiredo, Yohan Benalouane and Tendayi Darikwa, along with younger players such as Alex Mighten and Tyrese Fornah.

Davis Keillor-Dunn opened the scoring for Oldham early on, heading home following a left-hand cross from Zak Dearnley after Forest failed to clear a corner.

And Dearnley then made it 2-0 on the half hour as he finished off a quick counter-attack.

Grabban came closest to finding the net for Lamouchi’s men before half-time but was unable to beat the Oldham goalkeeper.

The Reds had more of the play in the second half, with Adomah and Mighten both kept at bay, but they were unable to find a breakthrough.

It was the first pre-season friendly for Lamouchi’s squad after they returned to training at the start of the week.

They have less than a fortnight before they are in competitive action, facing Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on September 5.
