New signing Kaide Gordon makes Liverpool debut

Liverpool starlet Kaide Gordon made his debut for the U18s on Tuesday night during a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.

The 16-year-old, who signed for the Reds earlier this month from Derby County, started the game on the right of a front three alongside Max Woltman and Mateusz Musialowski.

Gordon has earned comparisons to Mohamed Salah thanks to his "wand of a left foot" and had already made his senior debut for the Rams back in December, following rave reviews from manager Wayne Rooney.

And the new boy, who signed for an initial fee of £1million - which could rise to £3million with add-ons, almost made an instant impact against Rovers at the Kirkby Academy when visiting defender Jay Haddow almost headed Gordon's deep cross headed into his own net.

The highly-rated teenager continued to find good positions during the game and stretched to meet James Norris’ cross before clipping the bar with a headed effort after fine work on the right from Isaac Mabaya, with around 15 minutes to go and the game finely poised at 0-0.

However, the young Reds were caught by a sucker punch deep into stoppage time when Georgie Gent curled a 20-yard effort in off the post to give the visitors all three points in a tight U18 Premier League North contest.

Liverpool U18s sit second in the division, just behind leaders Manchester United and Man City closing in.
