New sign featuring Castle Douglas' coat of arms officially unveiled

A new sign boldly displaying Castle Douglas’ coat of arms has been officially unveiled.

It has been erected on the roundabout at the top of the town and was skilfully painted in striking blues, yellows, greys and reds by talented local artist Hazel Campbell.

Postmaster Colin Wilson – who was named Dumfries and Galloway’s High Street Hero last year – was delighted to be at the launch.

He said: “It was lovely to see the coat of arms in situ welcoming visitors to the town and the motto Forward has been very applicable to our positive thinking community in Castle Douglas.”

Castle Douglas Community Council treasurer Martin Fortnum added: “It’s nice to see our coat of arms so prominently displayed at the roundabout as you enter the town.”

The community council, local authority and officials have thanked Hazel for her hard work, artistic skills and dedication towards the project, with the coat of arms and beautiful flower display an impressive sight for people entering Castle Douglas.
