New shopping limits for customers at Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Morrison's and Sainsbury's

At the beginning of lockdown, going to the supermarket was a challenging experience – with shelves stripped bare, huge queues and changes to shopping hours.

Asda, Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s were among the stores who introduced limits on certain items to prevent customers panic-buying.

While many of the shopping restrictions have now been lifted, there are some items that still prove tricky to get hold of, including flour and other baking products.

MyLondon has outlined the restrictions still in place that shoppers need to be aware of.

Asda

The supermarket has lifted restrictions on the number of items you can buy at any one time, but some may still be limited if they are considered in high demand.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We have plenty of stock coming in but we need to manage demand so we can serve everyone.”

Shoppers are advised to ask staff if there are any restrictions in place during your visit.

Tesco

Tesco did have a three item per customer limit on most products, but this now only applies to certain products.

Shoppers can only buy up to three of each of these essential items: toilet rolls and paper goods, household and personal cleaning products, which includes hand sanitisers, packets and tins of certain food items including pasta and rice, fresh eggs and home baking products.

The supermarket chain has begun selling flour direct from its in-store bakeries in light of the astronomical rise in home baking. (PA)

Sainsbury’s

Limits remain on certain items, including pasta, UHT milk, antibacterial products and some canned and frozen foods.

Other restrictions have now been removed.

Morrisons

Customers can now shop at Morrisons without restrictions. A spokesperson said: “Thank you for continuing to shop considerately. As the stock on our shelves has filled up, we've now removed all buying restrictions in our supermarkets."

Aldi

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We have good availability across all of our stores and have removed restrictions across all products.”

So feel free to fill your trolley with whatever you fancy at Aldi.

Lidl

Shoppers can purchase whatever they want at Lidl, with all limits on products now removed.

A Lidl spokesperson said: “We lifted restrictions on all products a number of weeks ago and our teams are continuing to work hard to maintain supply across all product categories for our customers."
