New shipping firm aims to bring the personal touch back to ports

A new shipping business has been launched out of lockdown as a man with more than two decades of sector experience looks to focus on the personal touch.

Nevis International Global Logistics has been established by David Allen, having previously worked for DFDS, PD Ports and RMS on the Humber.

With support from his brother Paul, who brings an oil and gas perspective, he decided the time was right to put into action long-held plans.

Freight forwarding, ships agency, haulage and warehousing services are being offered, building on a network of contacts honed over the years.

Mr Allen, who is now looking to establish an office in the Grimsby area, said: “I am really passionate about communication, and this industry is all about communication. If someone is booking something they want a competitive rate, but they need communication. It is a big failure of a lot of companies in this sector.

“I want to take this as far as I can, but while growing I don’t want to lose that personal touch I know we can deliver. Communication and service is what we’ll be about.”

As well as the fresh perspective offered by his Derby-based brother, “he brings oil and gas knowledge to the shipping and logistics element,” David said, a representative has also been appointed in Felixstowe too.

Of the timing, he added: “I am an optimist. A lot of people have been furloughed, a lot of big freight forwarders’ service levels may have dropped because they simply don’t have the staff to fulfill their needs.

“There may well be an opportunity for people looking to work with smaller suppliers and get back to that personal touch.”
