New shared community centre officially opens its doors in Derry

A new shared community centre opened its door in Derry on Wednesday.

The new new shared community space is located in the Lincoln Courts area of the Waterside.

The £700k cross-community project saw the demolition of the existing centre followed by the construction of a new facility which includes a function hall, social space, computer suite and meeting rooms.

The project is part of Council’s Capital Development plan with funding support from the Department for Communities.

The centre was officially opened by Councillor Michaela Boyle, community representatives, and Director of the Community Empowerment Division at the Department for Communities, David Sales.

Speaking at the official opening of the centre, Michaela Boyle said: “The Lincoln Courts Community Centre will be a hub for the people of this area and a key resource with a wide range of facilities to meet their needs.

“Community development and enhancement is a crucial element of both the Strategic Growth Plan and the Local Development Plan for the City and District.

“The project is in keeping with our commitment to provide communities with modern and well-equipped shared spaces where people can socialise, learn and have fun.”
