New set of 50 pence coins to feature colour Peter Rabbit

A new set of coloured 50 pence coins featuring characters from the Peter Rabbit series are being issued by the Royal Mint.

The designs commemorate Beatrix Potter’s books and the hand-painted style of the original illustrations.

The coins have colour on Peter’s blue jacket, Benjamin Bunny’s green hat, Tom Kitten’s blue pyjamas and Jeremy Fisher’s red coat.

The coins feature four characters (PA)

The pieces were created by Emma Noble and a total of 30,000 of the coloured coins will be released as collectables, according to Sky News

There will also be an unlimited number of plain versions of the coin made available.

Royal Mint marked the 150th anniversary of Potter’s birth by releasing coins last year and the new set will now add to the collection.

Anne Jessopp, of the Royal Mint, said: "The enormous popularity of the 2016 set exceeded everyone's expectations...

"The coins sold out almost instantly as people raced to collect a complete set of the four friends."

Potter was an English writer and was born in 1866. She died aged 77 in 1943 and is best known for her children’s books featuring animals.
