New Screwfix store opening in Bristol

Like many major shopping streets across the country, Whiteladies Road is always a hive of activity.

The road welcomes a handful of new shops and restaurants every year, but also loses businesses on a fairly regular basis.

With plenty of people using the extended period of time cooped up inside as an opportunity to make home improvements, some might be interested to hear that the latest new addition to the area is a branch of Screwfix.

Builders are currently on site creating the store, however it is not yet known when it will open.

A Screwfix spokesperson said: "As we continue to grow our store network we will announce details about each new store, including planned dates for opening, in due course."

Earlier this month the DIY retailer revealed plans to open more than 50 stores in the UK and Ireland, creating around 600 new jobs.

Screwfix said the new roles will be in areas such as retail management, service assistants and supervisors and be created by the end of January next year.

The company plans to increase the total number of Screwfix outlets to more than 900 in the UK and Ireland, up from the previous target of 800.

The rapid growth of Screwfix has seen the trade retailer open, on average, one store per week for the past five years.

Earlier this year the company announced that it had reached annual sales of £2 billion for the first time, just five years after reaching sales of £1 billion.

Screwfix said “a major part” of its growth has been its focus on ecommerce, using its stores as fulfilment centres for click-and-collect deliveries which have surged during the Covid-19 pandemic.
