New Scottish Tory manifesto could see all school children receive free breakfast and lunch

All primary pupils in Scotland could receive a free breakfast and lunch at school if the Tory party gets elected, according to new leader Douglas Ross.

Under the SNP, free school meals are available for all P1 to P3 primary children as well as children of all ages with parents who receive Universal Credit or other benefits.

However, the new Tory leader argues the current measures are “too limited” and wants to introduce free breakfast and lunch for all school children in his new Holyrood election manifesto.

The Scottish Conservatives have released a paper titled "Restore our Schools” which also includes a number of other proposals aimed at boosting the education system.

If the Scottish Tories were to be elected they have also promised to hire an extra 3000 teachers.

Children in Scotland would be offered a national tutoring service focused on Maths and English to help them get up to speed after the coronavirus crisis.
