New Scottish service to launch from Birmingham Airport

A new domestic service to Scotland will launch from Birmingham Airport next year.

easyJet has announced plans to operate 13 times a week between Birmingham and Edinburgh from March which is expected to carry 180,000 passengers in its first year.

This is the second new Birmingham route easyJet has announced in as many weeks, following the news that the airline will run a new service to Glasgow, also 13 times a week and from next March.

Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK manager, said: "We are delighted to be announcing another new route from Birmingham today and another connection to Scotland.

"It is the second route to Scotland in as many weeks and underlines our commitment to providing domestic services and expanding our offering for customers from the Midlands.

"We are confident the new service will be a popular addition to easyJet's network with those looking to travel both for business and leisure."

Airport chief executive Nick Barton added: "It is great news that easyJet is announcing a fourth route from Birmingham Airport just a couple of weeks after announcing its third route to Glasgow.

"This new route complements the existing Geneva and Belfast destinations. It is important that our passengers have a wide selection of destinations to choose from as well as a frequency of flights to suit their needs."

In separate news, Whizz Air has commenced new services to Krakow and Poznań in Poland from Birmingham.

The Poznań service has been reinstated due to demand while the Krakow route its new to Birmingham. The addition of these two new routes join the existing six services that Wizz Air runs to Poland.

Tom Screen, aviation director at Birmingham Airport, said: "It's great news that Wizz Air is now operating flights to Poznań and Krakow.

"These new services provide vital connections for friends and family as well as enabling travel to exciting city break destinations."
