New San Diego Charger Orlando Franklin buys big in Poway

Aug. 17--Orlando Franklin didn't waste any time in getting settled into his new surroundings.

The veteran offensive lineman, who joined the Chargers as a free agent in March after four years with the Broncos, has bought a house in the Old Winery Estates area of Poway, Calif., for $1.895 million.

The Spanish-style home on a cul-de-sac was built in 2004 and features vaulted ceilings, a foyer entry and fireplaces in the living room, great room and master bedroom.

Some 6,500 square feet of space includes an updated kitchen with a large center island, an office, five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Exposed beams, chandeliers and travertine and wood floors are among the interior details.

French doors open to palm-topped grounds with a swimming pool and spa, a horseshoe pit and an outdoor fireplace. Rolling lawns, formal landscaping and a four-car garage complete the 1.28-acre setting.

A fifth-round pick of the Broncos in 2011, Franklin, 27, made 63 regular season starts in four seasons, seeing time at both right tackle and left guard. His new contract with the Chargers is reportedly worth $36.5 million over five seasons, with a guaranteed $16.5 million coming in the first two years.

On and off the market for the last six years, the house relisted in April for the sale price of $1.895 million. It previously sold for $1.8 million in 2004, records show.

Mary Jo Atkins of Pacific Sotheby's International Realty represented both the buyer and the seller, according to the Multiple Listing Service.
