New Sambuca in Gateshead's Trinity Square is on course to become a local favourite

The new branch of budget Italian favourite Sambuca has now opened in Gateshead and already it's serving up success.

The most recent branch of the North East restaurant chain has been welcoming first customers to its new home in Trinity Square on the site previously occupied by Frankie and Benny’s.

The initial announcement that Sambuca was to fill the long-vacant premises was warmly welcomed and its prime spot, next to both student haunt Nando's and the Vue Cinema, is a major boost to the location's night out offering.

And its first days have certainly kept staff on their feet, with the restaurant reporting: "Our opening week was extremely busy and we are working hard to serve the best fresh Italian dishes at a great value."

Sambuca, which has branches in Newcastle and across the North East, serves classic Italian fare and this by all accounts is going down a storm at Trinity Square which has helped bring new life to the former Gateshead town centre site of the old Get Carter carpark.

On the restaurant's Facebook page, one fan commented: "It's finally open. I've never been so happy!" while another wrote: "Pizzas are lush; can’t wait to try steak night on Monday" and one customer said: "I can highly recommend the cajun beef strip fillets, was delicious."

A further draw for diners has been the chance to win free food, with Sambuca running regular giveaways on its Facebook page , including free three-course meals, with a bottle of wine, for four people.

Its current special deals include a three-course lunch for £6.95 which runs daily except for Sunday when there is a carvery option available to book on 0191 477 5588.

The Trinity Square restaurant is open from noon each day and until 9pm on Monday to Thursday; 10pm on Friday and Saturday and until 8pm on Sunday.

The company as a whole is running a competition to win a meal every month for a year. The prize is for two people up the value of £50. See how to enter here .
