New sales VP to drive data business with heavy industry firms

Edinburgh-based Brainnwave , an emerging tech company, has boosted its senior team with the appointment of a vice president of sales.

Derek Burgess, who brings over 10 years’ experience in sales and business development, joins from DigitalGlobe. Prior to working in sales, he was an engineer and data analyst. At Brainnwave, his focus will be on expanding the company’s work with global businesses across the oil & gas, mining, utilities and housing sectors.

Steve Coates, co-founder and chief executive officer of Brainnwave, said: “This is a key appointment for us as we look to move forward with our growth plans. Derek’s expertise and in-depth understanding of the sectors we operate in will be invaluable to demonstrating how we can work with businesses, using their data to make a real impact on their operations, and strategies.”

Brainnwave has delivered projects with companies such as Aggreko, helping them to secure greater insights from their data to drive business decisions. The company is working on a major project to support in the management of gas flaring activities around the world.

Brainnwave’s product, Ossian, is a business tool blending customer data with relevant open data sources making complex information more simplified in a visual context.

Burgess added: “I’m thrilled to join the Brainnwave team. It’s a growing, ambitious business that is already working with global leaders in the energy and housing sectors, and I’m looking forward to contributing to its journey.”
