New Sainsbury's opens on busy Nottingham shopping street

A new Sainsbury’s Local has opened in the heart of Nottingham city centre in one of the UK's busiest pedestrian streets.

The first customers were welcomed through the doors today at the Clumber Street store - located in the former O2 shop.

Open seven days a week, from 7am to 11pm, more than 2,000 products fill the shelves.

Local residents, workers and shoppers will now have the opportunity to pick up a bite to eat from a selection of sandwiches and ‘food to go’, as well as choose a freshly made drink from a self-service Costa coffee machine or orange juicer.

The store is also selling fresh food, fruit and vegetables, in-store bakery and other household grocery products.

Store manager Chris Grace and a 22-strong team will be playing an active role in the local area, as well as supporting Sainsbury’s nationwide charity partners and volunteering programmes.

Nearby charities that Sainsbury’s has recently supported include Framework, Arnold Food Bank and Footprints Conductive Education.

Mr Grace said: "My team and I have been working hard to get the new store ready for opening and we’re really looking forward to becoming key part of this bustling community.

"I know our commitment to brilliant service well help us become a customer favourite on Clumber Street in no time.”

The new arrival follows Sainsbury’s recent announcement that it will also be opening its new supermarket in Colwick next month, on November 10.

Both stores are part of a multimillion-pound programme of investments Sainsbury’s is making in Nottinghamshire, which also includes the refurbishment of some existing stores in the area.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s property director, said: “I’m very excited that we’ve opened our new store on Clumber Street, where it will be very well placed to offer even more convenience and choice to residents and visitors in this vibrant part of Nottingham’s city centre.

Earlier this month Sainsbury's announced the Local shop in Carrington Street would be closing in the new year.
