New safety measures at Rutherglen shopping centre as stores reopen and extend opening hours

Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre stores that have remained open during lockdown are now extending their trading hours, while shops which were closed, including Subway, will reopen and some new businesses such as H&T Pawnbroker, have launched.

Centre manager Jane Cowan told the Reformer it was staff’s duty to ensure that all its customers were protected.

Jane said: “Our customers have always looked out for us and we know that where possible they will take their own precautionary measures and ours will compliment individual’s standards of hygiene.

“Reopening the public lavatories has been a great step as the inconvenience it caused our customers was immense.”

Additional safety measures have been implemented across the centre.

Jane said that points-of-frequent use such as buttons on the lift or the registration-number-entry pad on the car park machines are being cleaned ten times each day.

Staff now wear full PPE when carrying out cleaning duties and also respect social distancing.

Information posters are all around the centre showing where to queue for each store.

As further shops recommence trading, additional signage will be erected to ensure rules are followed.

Hand sanitising units have also been installed around the mall.

Jane added: “We made sure we kept open for our customers who make the shopping centre successful and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
