New rules from this weekend for the items you are allowed to take to the tip in Bolton

Throughout the lockdown people have found it difficult to get rid of their rubbish.

Some bins were being collected less regularly and tips were closed or operating a reduced service.

But, with the number of cases of coronavirus beginning to fall and more and more people returning to work, recycling centres in Bolton are now going to be returning to normal.

Over the next few weeks there will be a phased return, with a number of new household items being accepted in batches.

At the moment, only general waste, garden waste, cardboard and wood can be deposited at the tip and only a single person per vehicle is allowed to exit the vehicle and dispose of the waste.

But, Coun Adele Warren, Bolton Council's Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Service Delivery, has revealed that this is set to change.

In a post on Facebook she said the following items would be accepted at Bolton's tips.

  • May 30: Scrap Metal and rubble.
  • June 13: Carpets, waste electrical items, tyres, oil, batteries.
  • June 27: Textiles.
  • July 6: Mattresses at all sites.

In addition, the Salford Road recycling centre is set to reopen 7 days a week from June 13.

The Hurstwood Court and Raikes Lane sites are open Monday to Sunday 8am-6pm.
