New rules for shopping at Ikea as branches reopen

Ikea has revealed it is opening a number of branches across the Uk and Ireland, and there will be new rules for shoppers.

Stores will reopen from June 1, with 19 branches opening their doors.

It will come on the same day a swathe of other retailers reopen in line with the latest Government lockdown lifting announced on Monday.

And it follows the reopening of other homeware chains sich as Furniture Village and DFS.

The home furnishing retailer has said that it will be limiting the number of shoppers in stores, and has asked families not to come together where possible.

IKEA asks that shoppers only bring one other person from the same household, if you need special assistance or if you need to bring your children with you.

Here's everything you need to know about which IKEA stores are reopening, the new opening times and the rules in place.

The following stores will open to shoppers on June 1:

  • Croydon
  • Greenwich
  • Lakeside
  • Wembley
  • Tottenham
  • Norwich collection point
  • Birmingham
  • Nottingham
  • Belfast
  • Manchester
  • Warrington
  • Gateshead
  • Leeds
  • Sheffield
  • Milton Keynes
  • Reading
  • Southampton
  • Bristol
  • Exeter

To ensure a safe shopping experience Ikea asks that if you can, please shop alone. Only bring one other person from the same household, if you need special assistance or if you need to bring your children with you.

There will be a queuing system outside to manage entry into the store.

There will be co-workers and signage throughout the store to help with social distancing guidelines.

There will be additional cleaning, and sterilising to make the whole store as safe as possible.

Hand sanitisers will be stationed throughout the store, as will new protective screens at key points such as checkouts.

Ikea recommends you come prepared with ready-made lists and your own bags.

Ikea will only accept cashless payments to reduce the amount of contact between you and co-workers.

Ikea has also installed safety screens at key points across the store including checkouts to provide extra protection.

IKEA says it will be re-opening stores with reduced opening hours for now.

The opening hours will be as follows:

Mon-Sat: 10.00-20.00
Sun: 11.00-17.00
(Belfast opening hours are 12.00-18.00)
