RTE’s new star DJ Tara Stewart said she hassled 2FM for years to give her a slot.
The Australian, who moved to Ireland in 2011, said she’s excited to star alongside the likes of Jennifer Zamparelli in the new female led line-up. She told TV Now: “I just kept hassling 2FM to give me a shot basically.
“I started in 2XM, RTE’s digital station under Adam Fogarty, who is the director, and he mentored me a lot.
“In 2016 I got a shot on Tracy Clifford’s show, a contribution every Monday and I’m going to still keep doing that. I also stood in for Lottie [Ryan] and then I started doing the full-time afternoons as well so yeah that’s been kinda my journey.”
Prior to her success on Irish airwaves, Tara worked in the hospitality industry and credited it as a rite of passage in anyone’s working life. She said: “I had loads of different hospitality jobs.
“I was working as a waitress and then also doing hosting duties in restaurants, a manager of a cafe.
“I feel like everybody needs to do that, so you have some compassion.”
