New rock festival Sunstroke planned for June 2020 cancelled due to Covid-19

Ireland's new alternative rock festival Sunstroke has been forced to cancel its inaugural event, it was announced on Wednesday.

The festival was due to take place at Punchestown Racecourse on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, with Deftones, Faith No More,Mastodon and Sepultura among the headliners.

However, organisers revealed this afternoon it is no longer going ahead due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ticketmaster will now contact all those who have bought tickets for the festival.

Writing on Twitter: "It's with regret that we have to cancel Sunstroke due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

"All ticket holders will be contacted directly by Ticketmaster.

"Thank you to all the bands, managers, agents, crews, and you the fans for all your support so far."

Disappointed fans pledged their support to the festival, with many vowing to attend if it goes ahead next year.

One wrote: "Understandable. I really hope this event goes ahead in 2021."

Another added: "Absolutely gutted to hear this, but it was the right call. Please don't give up on the fantastic idea of a world-class rock and metal festival in Ireland! Hope to see everyone safe and well at Sunstroke 2021."
