New Rick and Morty season 4 trailer as series finally returns to screens

Rick and Morty creators have released a trailer for the second half of season 4, weeks before the popular show is set to finally return to TV screens.

Back with yet more of Rick's intergalactic wit, he will be joined by trusty sidekick and grandson Morty for five more episodes.

Ahead of the show's much-anticipated return, in the trailer viewers can get a taste of what to expect from the popular duo.

"The time for brand new Rick and Morty adventures is almost here," the voice over announces as our favourite characters battle through yet even more mind-boggling storylines.

Alongside Rick straddling a giant wolf, the pair will will come face to face with countless new aliens as they venture off on a series of bizarre adventures.

At one point the hilarious duo even argue over wearing a live, wriggling squid creatures on their faces as we are introduced to ever more unusual plots.

The show will also see the return of some familiar faces including Snow Ball and Rick Sanchez's extended family.

Sharing the news on the Adult Swim official Twitter account, fans couldn't believe their luck that the show had finally announced a comeback.

Others, however, were sceptical that they released the news on April Fools Day.

"AdultSwim better not be foolin'. If they are, this is one hell of a joke, but if they aren't I'm genuinely excited for what Rick and Morty has in store," wrote one fan.

For fans that can't wait any longer, Adult Swim also dropped an anime-inspired mini-episode titled Samurai & Shogun that is now available to watch on YouTube.

In the brief storyline, Rick encounters another version of himself as they battle with samurai swords over Morty.

After a successful three seasons, fans were left in anticipation when just five episodes of the fourth season were released five months earlier.

The show, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, has received plenty of critical acclaim and has been renewed for 70 more episodes because of its success.

The show is set to return to the United States on May 3 but UK viewers will have to wait a little longer to catch up with the characters.
