New retail development in Broxburn set to create 65 jobs

A new retail development in Broxburn is set to create 65 new jobs.

The site at East Main Street will house a new Lidl and Home Bargains.

Lidl are working with construction firm NRS to build their 23,627 sq ft store on an 1.9 acre site.

It is expected to take around nine months to build with a view to opening in spring 2021.

Home Bargains construction will follow shortly after with an intended opening later in that year.

The multi-million pound investment will see Lidl move from its current Broxburn store on Greendykes Road.

Customers will benefit from new facilities including an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, customer toilets, baby changing and parking for both cars and bicycles.

The company’s Gordon Rafferty said: “We’re delighted to break ground and start build on a new larger store for Broxburn.

“It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

Lidl and Home Bargains acquired the sites from a joint venture between Rubicon Land and Paradigm.

Rubicon Land’s director Alistair Reid Thomas said: “With two excellent and popular retailers scheduled to open in 2021, we are already seeing good levels of interest in the final site, suitable for a drive-through/standalone restaurant.”
