New restrictions for entire country as Level Four lockdown confirmed for Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan, Taoiseach confirms

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has announced new measures for the whole country while three counties have been placed under strict lockdown rules.

As the Irish Mirror reported earlier, Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan will be placed on Level Four lockdown restrictions following a continued spike in cases in the three regions.

But Government has also banned household visits nationwide, except for essential or compassionate circumstances.

This includes outdoor visits.

Up to six people from no more than two houses can meet outdoors publically.

The existing exemption which allows for Club Championship games to be played behind closed doors has been removed.

The Taoiseach announced that the measures will come into effect from tomorrow night during a press conference this evening.

They will be in place until November 10.

The news follows on from a raft of new restrictions introduced in Northern Ireland earlier, along with a major spike of new Covid-19 cases here.

The Cabinet held an emergency meeting tonight, where the proposal was brought forward by the Cabinet Covid subcommittee.

Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Minister Eamon Ryan all supported the proposal.

It is understood that the border county of Louth was considered for tighter measures, but will remain at Level Three for now.

Under Level Four restrictions, no social gatherings will be allowed to take place indoors and no visitors will be allowed to households.

Gatherings of up to 15 people outdoors will be permitted.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes will all be forced to shut their doors and will only be allowed to offer takeaway service.

Essential retail and businesses that are primarily outdoors only can remain open but all other retail and personal services closed.

Up to 25 mourners can attend funerals and up to 6 can attend weddings.
