New restaurant planned for Hidden Lane in the west end

A new restaurant is being planned for the Hidden Lane in Glasgow's west end.

The cobbled alley behind Argyle Street is home to a community of "artists, designers creatives and more" and boasts more than 100 studios, a tea room and the Hidden Lane gallery – described by owner Joe Mulholland "an incubation space for entrepreneurs in all fields."

Mr Mulholland bought up the dilapidated buildings in the lane in 1990 and gave them a new lease of life, helping pave the way for Scots rockers such as Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai and Snow Patrol.

Even today, Belle and Sebastian's own studio is still tucked away down this little Finnieston street.

And after an initial setback, plans are again in motion for a brand new restaurant in a vacant brick building near the entrance.

According to council documents, the venture was turned down in January 2018 as officials raised concerns over potential noise, traffic and pedestrian safety, cooking odour and waste disposal.

But Hidden Lane bosses have unveiled new plans to introduce parking restrictions and increasing the waste area – insisting the eatery will "further enhance the neighbourhood as an attractive place to stay and live; and as a place to visit and enjoy."

Details about the restaurant are being kept under wraps just now – but we reckon a new food spot could be the icing on the cake for one of Glasgow's best-loved hidden gems.

You can keep an eye on the Hidden Lane Facebook page for further news.
