New restaurant kits allow you to make delicious pizza and burgers at home

It’s a nightmare trying to find ways to keep the kids occupied these days, but some local restaurants and a Dún Laoghaire-based delivery service have come to the rescue by designing special ‘build-your-own’ kits to try at home.

So if you’ve ever fancied knocking up your own restaurant-standard pizza, gourmet burger or lip-smacking chicken wings - and letting the kids loose in the kitchen while you're at it - now you can.

Kits from Platform Pizza and Box Burger are now available to order from the new online delivery service StuffUNeed.ie and they are soon to be joined by Wing It, which has shops in George’s Street and Tallaght, and Bewley’s Coffee.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Doug Leddin from StuffUNeed explained the idea: “Platform Pizza is a well established pizza place in Bray and you have enough things there to make five pizzas, be it margherita, meat, veg, whatever. And obviously you can add your own stuff to it from your fridge.

“It's gone down really well – Johnny Sexton got one for his family and said it kept his kids busy for an hour.

“The Box Burger one, you grill them yourself or put them on the barbecue if the weather is good, and you get all the toppings – your pickles, cheese, bacon bits. You stack your burgers exactly how you want them and it tastes exactly how it would be in Box Burger.

“We're also teaming up with Bewley's to do coffee kits and we've got Wing It restaurant coming on board this week.”

The kits are proving to be a hit with parents and kids, but Doug says that he expects them to continue doing well after the current crisis is over.

“If you love chicken wings and you want to try Wing It wings, but you don't live near George's Street or Tallaght, now you can make them at home yourself,” he says.

“The pizza kits are a brilliant thing for kids' birthday parties, Box Burger for barbecues – it's high quality and it's something different.

“We're creating a new revenue stream for restaurants and we want to keep this going.”
