Irish holiday makers to spend thousands despite cost of living crisis

The average Irish holidaymaker is set to spend €2,800 on summer vacation on average this year, new research revealed.

Irish people are still keen on seeing their summer plans through despite the cost-of-living crisis, according to a new research by global technology company Wise. In order to achieve this, people will be using their savings, taking on personal loans or opting for credit cards.

Wise chief Sana Rahman said: "After spending so much time in lockdown, it’s clear that Irish holidaymakers are ready to get out there and start travelling again. However, with costs going up, they’re also being savvy about it 一 spending time researching good deals and planning their travel budgets."

Results showed people are just as keen on going on vacations as they were pre-pandemic, with some of the surveyed saying they're set on going to at least four holidays this year. As for the travel trends of the year, beach holidays remains the popular choice, with the majority of travels happening within Europe.

Other than spending longer researching holiday options in hope of securing a better deal, Irish holidaymakers are also looking for cheaper destinations than they previously would have, or for a shorter duration. The results also reveal that 11 per cent of Irish holiday makers are more likely to travel domestically than internationally due to the rising costs.
